Başak Tanınmış Yücememiş was born in 1972 in Istanbul. She graduated from Cağaloğlu Anatolian High School in 1990 and from the Faculty of Economics, Department of Economics (English) at Istanbul University in 1994.

She began her academic career as a research assistant in 1999 at the Banking and Insurance Institute at Marmara University. She received her master’s degrees from the Social Sciences Institute, the Department of Economic Structure of the European Community at Istanbul University as well as the Institute of Banking and Insurance at the Banking Department at Marmara University, and also earned her Ph.D. from the latter department in 2004. She became an associate professor of macroeconomics in 2012, and was appointed a professor in the same field in 2018.

Ms. Yücememiş served as Deputy Director at the School and Institute of Banking and Insurance at Marmara University in different periods, and joined the academic staff of the Banking Department of the same school. Ms. Yücememiş has authored many books and academic studies on macroeconomics, financial markets and institutions, money and banking, central banking and the economic structure and financial system of the European Union.

She is married with two children and she speaks English and German.

Prof. Yücememiş has been a member of the Board of the CBRT since 1 May 2019.
