Press Release on 2022 Conference of Mediterranean Central Banks

The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT), the Banco de España, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) held the 2022 Conference of Mediterranean Central Banks on 31 October 2022, in Istanbul.

The Conference was co-chaired by Prof. Şahap Kavcıoğlu, CBRT Governor, and Pablo Hernández de Cos, Governor of the Banco de España. With the theme of “Building Resilience in Uncertain Times: Safeguarding Financial Stability, Encouraging Investments”, the Conference was opened by a speech from CBRT Governor Prof. Şahap Kavcıoğlu, and was attended by the governors of the central banks of Türkiye, Spain, Greece, Tunisia, Croatia, Malta and Libya, as well as senior representatives from the Central Banks of Italy and Morocco, and the OECD. 

The conference addressed the role of central banks in enhancing economic resilience and safeguarding financial stability in current global circumstances. 

During the Conference, the impact of digital finance on economic and financial integration was also evaluated and practices that central banks can adopt in the face of innovations in the financial system were discussed.
