Press Release on the Redesign of the CBRT Payment Systems

The CBRT Payment Systems have been put into service in a redesigned version

The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) has redesigned and put into use its Payment Systems with new technologies and architecture. The CBRT Payment Systems, consisting of the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) System, Retail Payment System (RPS) and the Electronic Securities Transfer System (ESTS), were improved by the CBRT to introduce a more flexible and independent architecture, and became operational on 23 February 2024 in the redesigned version.

The CBRT Payment Systems, which have been in operation since 1992 and were put into service after being redeveloped at the CBRT in 2013, have been functioning effectively and efficiently as the main infrastructure of the payments ecosystem of Türkiye for over 10 years. A total of 780 million transactions were settled via the CBRT Payment Systems in 2023 with a daily average of 3.1 million transactions.

In the upcoming period, improvements will continue for the effective and efficient functioning of the systems in line with sectoral needs, international requirements, and the latest technological developments.
